VLC Media Player is a free and open-source cross-platform multimedia player and streaming media server written by the VideoLAN project. VLC is the most portable multimedia player around as it supports a wide variety of file formats, including DVD files, audio CDs, and various streaming protocols. It can also be used to stream media over a network connection.
No matter what device you use, VLC will work perfectly fine with it. Whether you want to play a movie from your hard drive or stream one from Netflix, this app has got everything covered so that everyone in the house can enjoy watching something together at night. And if some files don’t work well with other players, open up VLC, and they should start working right away!
It plays most multimedia files, and many audio formats, without requiring other software such as codecs. VLC has lots of features, including capturing from a webcam or microphone, recording, converting textual information into audible speech, DVD playback, plus live streaming capabilities.
VLC can also play videos without a soundtrack if you want. VLC supports drag-and-drop functionality for easy input. You can change the order of playback just by dragging or sorting files in the playlist window. You can get this fantastic software for Windows, Mac OS X, GNU/Linux, and BSD.
VLC supports hardware-based decoding. It has zero-copy GPU support for fast decoding and may fall back on software when necessary.
The best part about VLC Media Player is that it does not need to install any other programs or codecs in order to work, which saves time and makes it very easy for anyone to use.
VLC Media Player is very powerful and offers all the standard controls you’d expect, but it also includes lots of advanced settings so that if want to get technical about things, including subtitle synchronization, video, and audio filters.
One of the most common and annoying problems in video format conversion is when you want to convert a video for your mobile device, and it’s not compatible with the operating system or player. VLC Media Player will allow you to convert any file, whether a DVD, AVI, WMV, MKV, MP4, MOV, MPEG-1/2/4, or any other extension.
Internet Radio is a catch-all term for streaming audio broadcasts of radio stations or shows. Internet Radio offers a wide variety of things to listen to, including music from all genres, talk shows, discussions on various topics, comedy routines, and more.
The first time you start VLC Media Player, you’ll notice the frequencies tab at the bottom left corner of the window. Click on it, and you’ll see a list of radio stations from all across the world in various genres, languages, and countries!
There’s an almost endless selection to choose from, such as music channels like Pandora or Spotify that play your favorite songs (and if they don’t, just add them!) for free, talk shows.
If you want to take your VLC Media player experience to the next level, many add-ons and extensions are available for download.
Some other popular extensions are subtitles sync, full-screen mode, single-window mode, cover art downloader, streaming with RTSP or RTP (for video) or RTMP (for audio), converting media files to any format, and more.
If you wish to use VLC for desktop recording, go to Media and then Convert/Save. Go to the capture device tab and choose Capture mode. A drop-down menu will appear; select Desktop for recording from it. For video settings, make selections for codecs, and, lastly, define the output folder where you’ll store altered content. When you want to cease recording, hit the Stop button on the screen.
VLC Media Player is compatible with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7,10,11.
